The Black Ballad - Chronicles of the Crossing - 5E Purgatory Setting

Created by Storytellers Forge Studios

Even the Dead have tales to tell… Chronicles of the Crossing is a collection of full-length novels, TTRPG Campaign and Setting Guide, and Metal-Infused Musical Score. These novels explore the question any adventurer has had to ask. You died. Now what?

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Okay! Post Campaign! Pre-Orders! News!
6 days ago – Fri, Nov 15, 2024 at 08:29:46 AM

Right, I'm back into existence! Sorry for the delay everyone, I was currently dead to the world.

*Glares at Pat and Ian.*

THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO DO UPDATES!!! Do you know how hard it is to do updates from the underworld? You leave one set of friends in charge of updates and suddenly everyone forgets their basic necromancy spells.

The gall.

ANYWAY! WE DID THE THING! We get to expand the setting of the Black Ballad a little further and keep the lights on. So what happens now?

First: I finally toggled the pre-order store. https://black-ballad-chronicles-of-the-crossing.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders in case you missed the campaign. There is a new option up there: Relict TTRPG Starter Kit and adventure. Everything on there will be available during your pledge surveys when they are released, so it's mostly for the people who missed the campaign entirely!

Book Production: Everything is truly based off this -> Cover art is under way, and once that's finished we are into type set and getting novels listed and sorted. Honestly, we are really far ahead here. We actually started covers during the campaign and all editing is finished. You'll get updates once we have some initial covers locked in, but this one will be an easy crowdfunding to fill later on.

Pledge Managers: I'm going to release them next year, a little closer to when we are ready to start shipping books to eliminate the number of addresses that people need to change and let the 2025 shipping charges get updated.

What's Next? There are other projects that belong firmly within the TTRPG sphere we've been writing and polishing (and getting art for) this entire year. We haven't showcased much yet, but in January we will hit the ground running with teasers and updates for our next major Player Handbook and TTRPG campaign in March.

I will still keep doing updates here as we get cover art, new DiAmorte music to share, and ready for digital distribution, so stick around!

And if you missed the crowdfunding and still want to dive in, you officially can now!

-Thank you everyone,

Rick and the STF Team.

We still ride! Midweek update!
14 days ago – Thu, Nov 07, 2024 at 07:52:32 AM

Hey everyone!

So, it's taken me a bit to figure out what to post for a midweek update. Storytellers Forge is still riding, and some of us are picking up shields. We will continue to bring badass music and fantasy fiction. The world is understandably feeling like a gigantic ball of chaos, but we've still got our obligations as creatives.

To showcase the next book, author C.D. Corrigan and Eldritch Editor Courteney Penney have worked with Brian Fitzpatrick to provide the perfect synopsis for To Slay A God. You can watch that below.

I know our campaign is coming to an end soon, and we will start sharing cover art later on in December. All books are officially through the editing phase and now 100% ready for publication. Next week, during the final campaign push, we will have more substantial updates.

This week, just find something to enjoy.

Poll Question! Future Stuff! Week 3 Update!
22 days ago – Wed, Oct 30, 2024 at 08:34:59 AM

Rick here bringing you the week three update!

Our authors have been killing it on the Social Media front. We posted the Memory Thief Audio Trailer last time, and this time: We present Mortal Coils!

Additionally there is a new POLL up for voting! Black Ballad in Shadowdark!

Swing on down and toss your vote in if you are a Shadowdark fan. This update is short and sweet this week on account of the national holiday.

So with that in mind...

Happy friggin' Halloween and have a Blessed Samhain. Go forth and conquer!

Midweek Update! Severed Threads Announcement and more!
29 days ago – Wed, Oct 23, 2024 at 09:13:21 AM

Rick here!

There a ton of followers on this project who are on the fence! The world is currently (and perpetually) on fire, so we get it. Ergo, here's some stuff to just enjoy for the midweek content update!

Severed Threads - Tales of the Black Ballad:

This Saturday RIGHT here! (You should all be able to see the live stream scheduled). Join us and MEDM and crew for an epic story of the Black Ballad that showcases the music, adventurers struggling in the afterlife, and an amazing crew of theater nerds and opera singers bringing their absolute a-game.

Think I'm kidding? Check out the trailer they made!

During the stream we will have fancy give aways (custom dice?) and more Black Ballad on VTT for people who back the crowdfunding.

Question For Everyone!

We've got the ability to make sample narration reads and videos for each of the books. Something similar to this:

We figure for the book readers, it might be handy to help lure you in (our not-so-secret plan to convince you to pledge and get some books) and showcase the novels.

Is that something you would like more of? I don't exactly want to ping people with updates to their inbox multiple times a week, so we might take a breather and compile them and also post some Red Opera and Tales of the Shadelands for everyone just to listen to.

But leave a comment if you want me to compile them all here and do updates with them!

Full Soundtrack release on YouTube!
about 1 month ago – Fri, Oct 18, 2024 at 09:19:01 AM

It's officially Friday and we still need your help and support for this launch!

We are onto stretch goals, and arguably the most important one: cover art.

So if you've opened this email...jump in to the campaign and pledge some support!

But... I also promised music.

https://youtu.be/OiW7JuOMdXI?si=xB8mKs9b-ha5w6pc

Diamorte and Storytellers Forge are proud to present the full orchestral soundtrack of the Black Ballad on YouTube so you can listen today.

It's absolutely gorgeous, near an hour, and perfect to play along with the campaign or while cuddling down and reading novels.

Check it out! And if you like it...the full metal album is being released as part of this crowdfund!

If you already backed, helped us out and message a friend about it.

Your pledges are how us creatives get coffee to make you cool books, music, and games!
